#066: Teacher Self-Care: Why You Need to Take Time For YOU All Year Long

self care Oct 21, 2021
Teacher self-care time is important all year long, not just over breaks and holidays.

It's always a great time to take a minute for self-care. I know. There's SO much to do! News Flash! There will ALWAYS be a lot to do. With the holiday season sneaking up on us, now is a great time to take a minute for yourself.  There's going to be lots to celebrate and just as much to plan, prep, and do. Today, let's talk about the best way to get ready for all that [and to be ready for anything all year long].

Listen in.

You simply can't pour from an empty pot.

Take some time to take care of YOU. Not only will you be glad you did, but your students, family, and friends will also. Why? You'll be able to be 100% present for all those you care about because you'll be rejuvenated. Self-care fills us up so we have more to give.

Here are some of my favorite self-care ideas. [The first one is a shocker 😂]
  • take a mental health day [YES, get a sub when you're not actually sick as a dog]
  • take a bath
  • get a massage
  • pray, journal or both
  • exercise - dance, walk, run, bike...
  • get outside - nature is rejuvenating
  • read something just for fun
  • make popcorn or prep your favorite snack and watch a movie or binge-watch your favorite shows
  • Indulge in your hobbies - set aside regular time just for the things that nurture your creative side.
  • get extra sleep - nap, go to bed early one night
  • get out with a friend - coffee, lunch date, a bike ride, got to a museum
  • pampering - massage, manicure, facial

Make your own self-care ideas list and keep it handy. Schedule something simple from your list each day. Try to give yourself an hour but even if it's just 15 minutes at a time. Go for something a bit bigger at least once a month if not once a week. I promise...it's a game-changer!

Taking care of YOU is not selfish. It's self-care and you deserve it!
