#005: Teaching in Surprising Ways with VIPKid Teacher Loren Deitrich

Teaching gets harder and more complicated every year, so I'm all about having options as a teacher. And once you become a mom, you're faced with all kinds of new challenges. Will you still teach or will you stay home with your kids for a bit? There can be pressure on every side. Everyone's got an opinion on that! Whether you want to have more time with your kids or you just need more income but teaching isn't something you want to completely give up, there's a flexible option for you.
My guest today is Loren Deitrich, a VIPKid Teacher. She's here to share her journey on how she successfully went from elementary classroom teacher to SAHM [stay at home mom] and teaching English to kids online.

Our journey as teachers can take some surprising turns and my guest today is no exception to that. Lauren is a wife, a mom of two young boys and an elementary teacher. She was born and raised in North Carolina, where she taught elementary school for 10 years, mostly in first and second grades. She's the girl who always KNEW she wanted to be an elementary school teacher. In 2016, her husband took a job that relocated their family to Montana. And that, is where things got interesting.
Her new normal...
Loren gets up early to teach before her kids are even up. By the time her kids are up, she's put in her work and is ready to play and enjoy her own kids for the rest of the day. Yes, she has to get herself to bed on time in oder to do this, but she thinks it's worth it.
I know the flexibility and extra pay drew her into teaching with VIPKid, but the kids are what keep her coming back. She's developed those relationships with her regulars that make teaching such a joy! And bonus...controlling her schedule and taking time off anytime she wants without having to do sub plans has been one of the things Loren has loved most about this kind of teaching.
